Racing since age four has taught Dillon Schwanbeck many life lessons that he may have never learned. These lessons have helped him grow into who he is today and he's grateful to have the opportunity to do something he loves.
There are many reasons Dillon races, but the bond that has formed between himself and his father Paul is why he loves being a racer. His father taught him most everything he knows about racing and life. Everything Dillon's parents have done to teach and inspire him are to ensure he lives his best life. They've taught him to be grateful for everything and Dillon believes everything good or bad happens for a reason.
Dillon wants to see the sport of auto racing grow. He mentors young drivers and volunteers at kart tracks, working to help kids see their potential. Like many of those kids, he wants to race professionally, a next step for him would be racing a late model.
Alt Motorsports
$500 Award
Racer: Greg Alt
Racer Age: 31
Vehicle: Wisconsin wingLESS Sprint
Home Track: Wilmot Raceway
Home State: Wisconsin
As a kid, Greg Alt could recite all of the active NASCAR driver's names and numbers. This love and passion for racing grew with Greg. He would race go-karts against siblings around a homemade track and after high school, moved to North Carolina to attend the NASCAR Technical Institute. Following 18 months of full time school and work, Greg graduated with high honors. But at that time there were few jobs for new graduates and Greg returned to Wisconsin, spending the next ten years saving money towards his dream.
That dream became a reality in 2019 when Greg began his first season of competition in an Wisconsin wingLESS Sprint Car. The season was filled with many first time experiences; racing on tracks he'd been to as a child, qualifying for feature races, enduring spin outs and crashes.
Greg’s love for racing and life is evident as he commits endless hours at work to fund his passion, has become a husband and now a father all while willing to help anyone asking for a hand.
Laney Osborne Racing
$500 Award
Racer: Laney Osborne
Racer Age: 13
Vehicle: Asphalt INEX Bandolero
Home Track: Jefferson Speedway
Home State: Wisconsin
"Stop being afraid of what could go wrong and start being excited about what could go right." Words Ken Osborne regularly tells his thirteen-year-old daughter Laney. In 2019 she embraced that statement and achieved her goal of being more aggressive behind the wheel, winning her first Bandolero feature event.
With hopes of competing in the top levels of NASCAR, Laney is entering her third season racing a Bandolero. She has also raced go-karts, achieving four top-five point finishes in addition to rookie of the year honors and a championship.
Laney has learned all aspects of racing from her father and grandfather. They've shown her that it isn't just driving a race car but it's also time in the garage. Simply put, work hard. They've taught her to be humble and respect everyone. The time spent with her family at the track, in the garage and learning from them are what Laney loves most about racing.
TEAM Seventy One
VIDEO AWARD
Racer: Edward Anschutz
Racer Age: 40
Vehicle: Dirt Street Stock
Home Track: 141 Speedway
Home State: Wisconsin
With five championships and over 60 feature wins, Edward Anschutz eats, breaths and sleeps race car chassis setup. He believes knowledge is power. Knowing more about car setup and how to change it for track conditions is essential to beat his competition.
Edward was taught to build and work on race cars himself rather than paying someone else. He learned how to race within his budget and that is what he credits for his longevity in the sport. A sport that can be as demanding physically as it is financially. But Edward will tell you "never give up”. He was born with Arthrogryposis which severely limits movement in his arms and legs. Though he uses leg braces and crutches that never stops him from reaching his goals. If you want something bad enough, you will do everything in your power to make it happen.
An animal lover, Edward and his fiancé Carrie take in dogs that were set to be put down and foster them until they find a permanent home. Since 2016, they've found homes for over 20 dogs.
